Clotilde Davenne, Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre (Burgundy, France) Chardonnay 2024 ($35, Bonhomie)

Clotilde Davenne, a top producer in Chablis, has expanded her portfolio to the adjacent appellation of Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre. With climate change, this northern appellation bordering Chablis, is rapidly becoming a fine source of affordable Bourgogne Blanc as more than one wine grower has told me, “We can make wine with ripe grapes now.” I purchased a case of her marvelous 2022 Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre and, of course, wish I had purchased more. Well, now’s the time to rectify that mistake. The crisp and cutting 2024, reflecting the cooler vintage, still has plenty of mineral-like stuffing. A couple of cases are going into my cellar to stock up for this summer’s seafood when it hits our retail market. The 2024 is headed to the USA very soon, and knowing that the importer is Bonhomie, you might want to get ready to jump on some of this when it arrives.
