Domaine du Cellier aux Moines, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru (Burgundy, France) Les Pucelles 2024 ($240, Misa Imports)

Containing all of the Grand Cru of Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet and large portions of both Bâtard-Montrachet and Le Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet is the finest source for white wine in all of Burgundy. Les Pucelles, lying just across a narrow road from Bâtard and Bienvenues ranks as one of the village’s top Premier Cru. Combine that locale with the fabulous 2024 vintage for whites, and Domaine du Cellier aux Moines, a top producer who still looks for ways to improve, results in a stellar wine. Though tightly wound at this stage, as it should be befitting a wine of its stature, its grandeur is impossible to hide. It emerges with time in the glass. Jacques Lardière, the legendary winemaker at Maison Louis Jadot, once told me that sometimes trying to describe a great wine diminishes it. So, I’ll leave it at this, find a place in the cellar for it for a decade of aging.
