Both charming and robust, this Chianti Classico Riserva blends dark cherry-like fruit with alluring and balancing “not just fruit” nuances. A bit of Merlot in the blend adds to its heft without overpowering and detracting from its character. Though youthful, it’s fine to drink now because of its freshness, fine tannins, and complexity. Vignamaggio seems to be promoting the name of the wine rather than relying on Chianti Classico Riserva to catch the consumer’s eye because they relegate the DOCG to the back label.
