The team at Bodegas Granbazán planted the estate, which has multiple exposures and altitudes, 45 years ago with a variety of biotypes of Albariño, which gives them a broad range of fruit aromas and flavors with which to work. Their focus has always been to show how Rías Baixas can produce premium wines. This one, their stellar flagship, has more weight and depth than most wines from Rías Baixas, without losing any of the grape’s characteristic zippy spiciness. More “oomph” and a fine texture (no doubt in part from prolonged lees-aging) balance the engaging grapefruit-like pungency. They achieve all of this weight and complexity with a mere 13-percent stated alcohol.
