Maison Louis Jadot, Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules (Burgundy, France) “Domaine Héritiers des Louis Jadot” 2023 ($122, Kobrand)

Paradoxically, robust yields saved this hot vintage from producing over-the-top wines. With a smaller crop, Frédéric Barnier, Jadot’s technical director, explains that all the vines’ energy would have produced overripe grapes. The dark color of the 2023 predicts the generosity on the palate. Great acidity imbues the wine with vivacity, keeping it fresh and in balance. Fine tannins and an overall charming aspect make the 2023 surprisingly approachable. It showed beautifully when I tasted it in barrel in November 2024 and has evolved nicely since then. I suspect it will close down in a year or two, so drink it now or wait a decade.
