Domaine Faiveley has practically dispensed with its négociant business except for a small amount of Bourgogne Rouge and now focuses on the extensive and well-suited vineyards it owns. Faiveley, one of the largest landowners in Burgundy, owns over 300-acres of vineyards throughout Burgundy, about 100 of which are in Mercurey, giving them a strong presence there. Le Framboisière, a village wine, comes from their roughly 25-acre vineyard, some of which was planted just after World War II and then later in the 1960s. It has been consistently a great calling card for the appellation. The Mercurey reds can be tough and structured. Top producers, like Faiveley, use well-situated old vines to achieve adequate ripeness so that the red fruit flavors characteristic of Mercury harmonize with the structure. Year after year, Le Framboisière hits that balance, with the 2024 being particularly charming with aromas leaping from the glass, followed by, dare I say, raspberry-like red fruitiness. Drink this summer when you fire up the grill.
