The Hautes Côtes, as they are called, is the current hotspot for affordable Burgundy thanks to climate change. The rustic tannins due to unripe grapes are no longer an inevitable hallmark of wines from there. Based in the Côte d’Or village of Gamay in St. Aubin, the family run Domaine Sylvain Langoureau makes an easy to recommend range of wines from St. Aubin along with wines from Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Their wines from the Hautes Côtes really fly under the radar, which is why they are such a bargain. The polished 2024 Clos Marc, with its impeccable interplay of bright red fruit and savory “not just fruit” character, shows just how far wines from the Hautes Côtes have come. Refined tannins make this mid-weight red easy to enjoy now.
