Despite sitting adjacent to Les Bois Chevaux, and coming from the same producer, the stunning Clos Marole displays a wonderfully different expression of Givry. The slope of Clos Marole is not quite so steep, and the soil contains more clay, which likely explains why the expression of Pinot Noir in this part of Givry runs more towards black-toned rather than red, fruit. The Clos Marole, a darker, more robust example of Givry than the norm, shows that the magic of terroir exists in here in Givry just as in the Côte d’Or. While the flavor profiles of Joblot’s wines differ, their balance and breeding remain constant. As with Joblot’s Les Bois Chevaux either decant this one a few hours before serving or find a place in the cellar for it to rest for a few years.
