Pinot Fin, a high-quality biotype of Pinot Noir, produces smaller berries and thicker skin. It’s even more finicky than most strains of Pinot Noir, so it’s rarely grown in Burgundy today. Domaine Geantet-Pansiot insists on perpetuating it and grows it both in Gevrey-Chambertin, the primary source for this wine, and Marsannay. The aromatic 2023 is particularly attractive because the generosity (ripeness) of the vintage – it was a hot year – is a great counterpoint for its fine tannins that provide structure without detracting. Geantet-Pansiot’s aromatic 2023 delivers more weight and complexity than you would expect from a wine labeled simply Bourgogne Rouge. Enjoy it this summer when you are throwing meat on the grill.
