Bourgogne Côte d’Or, a relatively new addition to the regional Bourgogne appellation, indicates that all the grapes came from the prestigious Côte d’Or. I find wines with this appellation made by top producers, like Domaine Michel Bouzereau, to be the place to find bargains in Burgundy. Indeed, I buy this wine virtually every year. It comes from 3 hectares of vines that lie outside of village appellations, 60 percent of which are located within the village of Meursault with the remainder from the village of Puligny Montrachet. Unsurprisingly it has a bit of finesse you would expect from Puligny coupled with a touch of power reminiscent of Meursault. The electric acidity of the 2024 just adds to its appeal. Despite its relatively lowly appellation, it develops beautifully in the bottle with several years of cellaring, in my experience, so there is no reason to polish off whatever you buy for this summer’s consumption.
