Adanti, Montefalco Sagrantino (Umbria, Italy) 2018 ($50)

Adanti has managed to tame the tannins in their Montefalco Sagrantino. That’s not to say this is a soft wine – far from it. It is Sagrantino, and wine made from that grape ought to have tannic structure. But the tannins in Adanti’s fragrant 2018 are fine, polished, and in check. Of course, it is a robust wine, with succulent dark fruit and tarry accent, what I call a Texas steakhouse wine. Bright lively acidity keeps it fresh and amplifies it lengthy finish. Save this one for a wintertime stew.
