Pinot Noir in Central Italy? Call me skeptical, but that is exactly the reason to taste. And am I glad I did! The volcanic soil of the Calanchi Valley—hence the name of the wine—likely imbues it with such a compelling combination of fruity and savory notes. Nuances of dark fruit balanced by that all too elusive “not just fruit” character make this Pinot Noir a delight. Mild and polished tannins mean it is ready to go now.
