Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has always lagged behind Brunello and Chianti Classico in recognition. One taste of this wine should change that, at least for you. There’s no doubt that Boscarelli is one of Vino Nobile’s top producers, and Il Nocio is their top wine. Add the splendid 2021 vintage to the equation and it’s no wonder this is an exceptional wine. The 2021 Il Noci shows the heights Sangiovese can achieve when planted in the right place and tended by people who know what they’re doing. A panoply of aromatic notes predicts greatness, and you are not disappointed thereafter. Elegance combined with an understated power – a true iron fist in a velvet glove – captures your attention. There’s a mineral-like austerity and firmness that blossoms on the palate and fills the mouth. Fine tannins make this remarkably forward and enjoyable now, but I suspect it will close down within the year, so savor it now with a simply grilled steak or cellar it for a decade or so.
