South Africa is justifiably known for Chenin Blanc, its signature grape, because of the quality of the wines made from it. And for reasons I don’t understand, Chenin Blanc wines from South Africa, like this one, are underappreciated — and underpriced — for what they deliver. Forrester combines a lovely floral component with a mineral one in his energetic 2024 Old Vine Reserve. An appealing roundness makes it suitable both as an aperitif during the hot and humid days of summer and well as a good choice when spicy fare is on the table. Bright acidity keeps it fresh throughout the meal.
