Mazzolino’s best vineyard, planted in 1998, provides the Pinot Noir for this, their flagship bottling. Its slightly dark color compared to their Terrazze Alte Pinot Noir accurately predicts a touch more ripeness and power, but the wine still falls easily into the light- to mid-weight category. It retains the same blissful combination of subtle fruitiness and herbal savory qualities, showing the wonderful duality of Pinot Noir. Mazzolino’s Pinot Noir clearly show that Lombardy’s Oltrepò Pavese is a place for finely balanced Pinot Noir.
