Chalk Hill Estate has always been known for their luscious and balanced Chardonnay. But, as those late-night television commercials used to say, “wait, there’s more.” The 2022 Estate Red, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Malbec (25%), Petit Verdot (15%) and Syrah, shows that Chalk Hill is not a one-horse show. This robust and juicy red leads with herbal notes, which are followed by dense black fruit ones. Although it is a powerhouse to be sure, weighing in at 15.1 percent alcohol, the fine tannins allow for immediate enjoyment with hearty fare.
