Since there are five Meursault-based producers containing the name Bouzereau, the consumer must read the label carefully. Though I’ve not tasted wine from all of them, the wines from Domaine Michel Bouzereau, which I have tasted over many years, are so terrific that I can’t imagine there’s a better one. I’ve been buying their wines for years and have never been disappointed. In fact, they are so consistently good, they’re one producer whose wines I would buy without tasting in advance. Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau took over from his father, Michel, in 1999 and introduced organic farming in 2005. The Clos du Mouin, a 1.1 ha plot in the center of the village of Meursault but outside of the boundaries of AOC Meursault, has the poise and presence that would excuse you for thinking it is a village Meursault. Consumers, take notice. This balanced beauty is an example of a wine exceeding expectations based on its appellation.
