King Family Vineyards, Monticello (Virginia) “Mountain Plains” Red Wine 2021 ($85)

The weighty bottle accurately predicts the size of this powerful red blend of Cabernet Franc (45%), Merlot (37%) and Petit Verdot. Yet, despite its boldness, the wine is not overblown. Supple tannins support the ripe black succulent fruit notes without intruding. It is a big wine, to be sure, but one that is not boisterous, weighing in at a modest 13.8 percent stated alcohol. Its fine texture means you can enjoy it now with a grilled steak.
