Tregole’s Gran Selezione, made entirely from Sangiovese, comes from a single vineyard planted in the 1970s, which abuts the vineyard they use for their Riserva. Despite the proximity, the wines are very different, which also may be a result of vintage. The fragrant and refined 2021 dazzles with its elegant combination of red fruitiness, spice, and herbal accents, all supported by fine tannins and the energy of the vintage. At this stage, this finesse-filled beauty is far more approachable than the 2022 Riserva. It will be a delight to drink as soon as it becomes available on our shores, which should be soon.
