Gran Selezione sits at the pinnacle of Chianti Classico quality pyramid, above Riserva. Regulations for Gran Selezione require that the grapes must come from the producer’s estate, but not necessarily from a single vineyard. In this case, they do, from the Campolungo vineyard that Lamole di Lamole believes produces exceptional Sangiovese. Turns out, it’s an exceptional wine from an exceptional vineyard. Lamole sits at a high elevation in Chianti Classico, which helps explain the stunning vibrancy and life in this multidimensional wine. There’s a harmonious combination of black fruit, spice, savory notes, all wrapped in fine tannins. Nothing is overdone or stands out—except the wine as a whole! Enthralling now, it will only improve with added complexity with additional bottle age.
