($50): Cakebread, known for their Napa Valley wines, has expanded to the cooler, more Pinot Noir friendly, Anderson Valley for their foray with the varietal. While clearly a fruit-focused wine, bright acidity prevents it from being jammy or overdone. Supple tannins enrobe the sweet dense mixture of lively red fruit flavors. The barest hint of minerality — non fruit flavors — emerges with time in the glass. Lovely now, the appearance of complexity over a half hour suggests it will develop nicely over the next few years.
