($14): Joel Gott is what the French call a négociant. He buys grapes from growers all over the state and puts together the blend he likes. This one, simply labeled, Red Wine, comes from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, grown in both Monterey and Knights Valley. Nicely textured, it has a little bit of everything — meaty, spicy, peppery notes — sit atop ripe, almost sweet, fruit.
