Offida, a small area in the southern part of the Marche, has been a DOCG only since 2011. Pecorino (the grape, not the cheese) has been growing in popularity with both growers and consumers. Growers like it because it ripens early, before autumn rains, and is relatively disease resistant. Consumers like it—once they figure out it is unrelated to the cheese—because of its zesty profile. Take this zippy white for example. Bright and crisp, with a cutting edginess, it is perfect for uncorking when you need a wine for spicy Asian cuisine such as Korean fried chicken or Vietnamese garlic noodles.
