Domaine du Beauregard, Bourgogne Côtes du Couchois (Burgundy, France)“Les Grandes Plantes” 2022 ($30)

The tiny and Pinot Noir-only Bourgogne Côtes du Couchois appellation lies just south of the Côte d’Or in the Côte Chalonnaise. Though it encompasses some 1,000 acres, only 30 acres are actually declared under the appellation by a handful of producers. Most producers just bottle the wines under the far-reaching Bourgogne appellation. Domaine du Beauregard wants to draw attention to the area because they feel the wines are distinctive by dint of being more robust than the usual Bourgogne Rouge. With a charming rusticity, their muscular yet not heavy 2022 Les Grandes Plantes is ideal for drinking with hearty fare now. It is for those who want their Burgundy with a touch more oomph.
