No newcomer, Marchesi di Gresy has been family-owned since 1797 and is best known for their stunning Barbaresco releases. If they are not careful, they could be known for this unique, steely Sauvignon, made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc grown in their vineyards in the communes of Barbaresco itself and Treiso. Unlike most Sauvignon Blanc, di Gresy’s focuses on a minerality supported by a tensile structure, avoiding the variety’s notorious grassy or herbal character. A delightful hint of Sauvignon’s bite reminds you of the grape, but the overall effect evokes a stoney place. Bracing acidity will cut through anything, so you can easily pair it with a hearty tomato-based seafood dish.
