($55, Quintessential Wines): I have never encountered a wine made exclusively from Sousão, a traditional Portuguese grape frequently used in the blend for making Port. Judging from this one, I look forward to sampling more of them. It delivers the all too infrequently found combination of power and freshness. Herbal notes accent its dark fruit flavors. Great energy balances its weight and richness. A hint of bitterness in the finish along with uplifting acidity amplifies its appeal. A grilled meat, or in this case, leitão — suckling pig — kind of wine.
