($34, Wilson Daniels): The grapes for this wine come from better-situated vineyards, either theirs or ones they manage. Indeed, they select the best fruit for this Estate bottling with the lesser quality grapes going into their excellent and very well-priced “Village” bottling, which, at $20 a bottle, is one of the best Chardonnays I’ve had at that price. The higher quality fruit and barrel fermentation explains why this Estate Chardonnay delivers more power and punch. Though clearly richer with more apparent seductive oak influence, its real appeal lies in its brightness, length and overall sophistication.
