($58, Robert Kacher Selections): Givry, along with Mercurey, are the two most important villages for red wine in the Côte Chalonnaise. Wines from there may lack the prestige compared to those from the Côte d’Or, but are often equally enjoyable. Joblot, a leading producer based in Givry, makes wines from a number of that village’s vineyards. This one conveys a lovely, exotic, slightly barnyard-infused nose that reflects the earthy undertones that nicely complement the black-fruit notes. Quite long, it has the appealing charm characteristic of the reds from the 2007 vintage and is a good choice for current consumption. 88 Michael Apstein Oct 6, 2009
