Georges Duboeuf, Pays d’Oc (Languedoc, France) Chardonnay 2017

($12, Quintessential):  Georges DuBoeuf, whose name is synonymous with Beaujolais and Flower Bottles, is expanding yet again to the south of France.  He’s no stranger to Chardonnay, bottling some excellent examples from closer to home in the Mâconnais, such as a delightful Mâcon-Villages and an even more up-scale Pouilly Fuissé.  My guess is that he’s now looking for a less expensive source of grapes for a more affordable tier of wines.  This pleasant Chardonnay, good for sipping, focuses on the fruity character of the grape.  Unless a few extra dollars would break your budget, I’d advise consumers to look for his Mâcon-Villages.
