Jean-Luc Colombo, Cornas (Rhône Valley, France) Vallon de L’Aigle 2009

($88, Palm Bay International):  This is Colombo’s top cuvée, from old vines sitting atop a ridge. The firmest and most mineraly of his wines, it has distinct peppery notes, which act like a condiment and enliven the wine.  Big and concentrated, the tannins are firm, but fine.  Tightly wound at this stage, it needs time in the cellar to blossom.
